The common ground of music

A look inside the subject Music production at Odder Højskole. It has many different aspects that are fun to check out and discover.

The teacher was missing from the class today, however the students were told they could still attend class and work on their own thing.

When walking into the room from a person’s perspective that hasn’t been there alot was almost breathtaking. Seeing all the instruments on the walls, guitars, drums and the piano. The quiet at first was so nice and soothing and the room itself just made you want to be there the whole day doing nothing and everything. All the computers and screens made it such a professional space.

Then the music production students all focused on their own thing in their own world. Some were on their computer editing sounds and songs they had been working on. Some were playing instruments, for example Juliet unbothered on the computer.

One thing worth mentioning is how respectful everyone was with each other. There was not an ounce of judgement floating in the air even though everyone could hear each other.

On the inside

Signý Ólöf Stefánsdóttir answered a few questions about music production, the subject itself and on the other hand some questions about why she chose this subject and her background.

Signý says she enjoys the subject very much since making music is her number one hobby and being able to make music at school is very enjoyable.

In the classes they have been learning how to make music on a program named Logic Pro and there they can spread their wings by making beats and try to make something of their own. To practise they have been listening to music to hear which instruments are used in songs and how it’s mixed and recorded to try and get a feel on how to make music.

“The group of students in music production get along great and the atmosphere is very special and great since everyone in the class has interest in music and therefore share that passion.”

The students have been taking part in group projects and according to Signý there you can see everyone individually and their strengths and learn from them, some are good at mixing, some are good at writing music and they learn from each other.
